SUMMARY:   Correctly makes recommendations for custom application pesticides and fertilizers to customer fields.  Operates all applicator equipment and performs maintenance on that equipment. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: 

Seasonal

  • Recommends and applies pesticides and fertilizers. 
  • Maintains accurate log books on applied acres. 
  • Performs maintenance and calibration on application equipment. 
  • Follows up on weed control in sprayed fields. 
  • Ensures the wearing of proper protection equipment. 

Off-Season

  • Continues education for maintaining pesticide applicator license. 
  • Attends applicator equipment workshops. 
  • Performs maintenance on other equipment and fixed facilities. 
  • Pulls soil samples. 
  • Mixes fertilizer and chemicals.
  • Picks up and delivers farm chemicals, fertilizer and seed. 
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor/manager
  • Reliable and regular attendance is expected. 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:   Supervises tender truck drivers for delivery and mixing of fertilizers and chemical to field applicators and assists Branch Manager in the supervision of temporary seasonal employees. 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:   To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:  High school diploma and experience in operating large equipment. 

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

  • Mechanically inclined. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Agricultural background. 
  • Basic knowledge of Ag pesticides and weed identification. 
  • CDL and pesticide license. 
  • Excellent driving record. 
  • Ability to read field maps. 
  • Professional competence to safety. 
  • Ability to pass a CDL physical examination. 
  • Ability to work without direct supervision. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, of feel objects, tools, or controls and talk and hear.  The employee frequently is required to stand, walk and sit.  The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. 

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
