The Montgomery County Department of Parks, Northern Parks Division is seeking a Park/General Maintenance Worker III-CDL for Rock Creek Regional Park. The successful candidate will perform a variety of maintenance tasks such as playground repairs, grass cutting, trash removal, athletic field maintenance, trail maintenance and cleaning and repairing park buildings and structures by working with and occasionally leading small groups of career and/or intermittent employees.  The ideal candidate should possess skills to operate trucks, tractors with attachments, large riding mowers, loaders, forklifts, and some trade skills in carpentry and painting.

  • Operation of mid-sized to large equipment to include: large mowers, tractors with attachments, backhoe, loader etc.
  • Operation of trucks, truck and trailer combinations, snow plows, dump trucks, trash trucks, etc. requiring a CDL license.
  • Occasional supervision of park maintenance employees in general park maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to perform minor repairs to playgrounds, carpentry, custodial, and preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to perform general maintenance to playgrounds, buildings and grounds.
  • Responds to emergencies and inclement weather conditions such as hurricanes, blizzards, and earth quakes.
  • Athletic field maintenance includes operating tractor w/ attachment to rake, drag and grade fields. May also make pesticide applications.
  • Collects and enters data for daily reports and work order completion forms. Assists and trains other staff in data entry and collection procedures.
  • Trains or assists with the training of seasonal staff members

 Minimum Qualifications: 1. High school graduate or GED, and four years of progressively responsible experience in groundskeeping, building maintenance, or park maintenance; and demonstrated ability to read and understand materials and instructions and write routine records and reports; or

2. An equivalent combination of education and experience.

3. Pass Commission medical examination.

4. Valid driver's license.

5. Additionally, contingent upon area of assignment, some positions in this class may require:

a. Commercial Driver's License with appropriate endorsements upon appointment, or the ability to acquire one within six months.

b. Maryland Department of Agriculture Pesticide Applicator's certification in the categories appropriate to the work assignment.

c. Certification by the National Playground Safety Institute.

 Supplemental Information: Incumbent should possess a Class A CDL or have the ability to attain one within 6 months of employment. 

The selected candidate for this position will primarily work outside and will be exposed to all types of weather.

Working on weekends, evenings, and holidays may be required.

The incumbent may be exposed to weather, dirt, waste, odors, caustic chemicals, pesticides, wildlife, and potentially harmful insects.
